Whatever your expertise or passion, you can positively impact youth in Sacramento through our various volunteer ventures. We're always looking for people interested in getting involved, and there are plenty of roles to be filled, including virtual opportunities, one-on-one tutoring, in-classroom opportunities, and supporting roles (like typing up work, editing, and event help).

Volunteer Opportunities

Read On! Tutor- Volunteering with Read On! is a rewarding opportunity to work directly with a striving reader and impact a child’s future! Read On! Tutors work 1:1 with a student to build reading skills and inspire a life long love of the written word

Read On! Tutor Requirements

  • Monday- Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Must be available for IN-PERSON service at least 2- 3 days/week (minimum 2-3 hours/ week) at a partner elementary school

    • Twin Rivers Unified Schools: Babcock Elementary, Michael J. Castori, Fairbanks, FC Joyce, and Village Elementary

  • Complete School District Background Check, Live Scan, TB Test, Mandated Reporter Training, & Code of Conduct, Attend Tutor Orientation

  • Bonus points if you speak Spanish, Farsi, or Hmong

Find Your Voice Inspirator- Volunteering with Find Your Voice is a great opportunity for assisting our Wordslingers in facilitating a classroom full of aspiring youth authors in creative writing. Inspirators will be supporting the classroom and participating during workshops to help inspire and encourage students with their work.

Find Your Voice Inspirator Requirements

  • Must be available for IN-PERSON service.

    • Available for 2-3 days, M-F, over the course of a 6 or 12 week workshop, 90 min.

  • Complete School District Background Check, Live Scan, TB Test, Mandated Reporter Training, & Code of Conduct, Attend Orientation

  • Bonus points if you speak Spanish, Farsi, or Hmong
