Sacramento County students are struggling with fundamental math and literacy skills. Based on the 2018-19 school year results of the California assessment of student performance and progress 51 percent of students in Sacramento County did not meet grade-level standards in English Language Arts and Literacy, and 62 percent did not meet the grade-level standards in mathematics. Recent studies from Policy Analysis for California Education show that due to the COVID-19 pandemic California students are experiencing, on average, 2.6 month learning lag in English Language Arts.
The 916 Ink AmeriCorps Fellowship program provides standard-aligned workshops and tutoring for 1st through 12th-grade students throughout Sacramento County.
Year-long paid fellowships for individuals interested in changing the literacy outcomes for local youth are available.

Eligibility:

Minimum of high school diploma or GED certificate
Hold US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status
Have not completed more than three prior AmeriCorps or VISTA service terms
