History
In 2020, in response to cancellations of literacy tutoring programs in the Sacramento area and the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the operations of schools, a group of local literacy advocates decided to create a collaborative Sacramento-based literacy solution that is owned and operated in Sacramento and that will support reading attainment in our community for generations to come.
As part of this coalition, 916 Ink envisions a Sacramento region where every child and teen is given access to a creative writing program that leads them to believe in themselves and to understand the power of the written word. Reading and writing are two complementary and necessary elements of student success. Further, 916 Ink’s creative writing programs depend on confident, capable, and engaged readers. Read On! launched in Fall 2020 as a pilot program for the 2020-2021 school year.
