Sacramento poetry week youth contest - Oct 26

Sacramento Poetry Week is hosting a poetry contest for youth 17 and under, with cash prizes up to $500. Contestants must be residents of Sacramento County, and all entered poetry must be original. Winners will be chosen by random drawing.

“Imagine this . . .” - Nov. 1

For the “Imagine this . . .” writing contest, sponsored by the California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom “Imagine this . . .” students grades 3-8 will pick an agricultural topic affecting California today and submit a story of up to 750 words on that topic. The story can be fiction or non-fiction.

Regional winners will receive a plaque of recognition. One student from each grade level will be chosen at the State level and have their story illustrated by a high school artist and published. They will also receive a medal and be invited to an awards ceremony at the State Capital.

California poet laureate “our california” - ongoing

The California Arts Council and Poet Laureate, Lee Herrick, has invited California poets of any age to submit a poem of up to 50 lines about their home town, city, or the state of California. Poems chosen from the submissions will be displayed on the Poet Laureate’s website and social media.
