Job purpose 

The After School Youth Programs Coordinator/AmeriCorps Supervisor provides high-quality literary arts education through 916 Ink’s “Find Your Voice” Creative Writing Workshop curriculum in Elementary, Middle and High School settings including those located within Community Partners and with Partnering Schools. The After School Programs Coordinator/AmeriCorps Supervisor will engage in supportive activities which will ensure effective and efficient delivery of 916 Ink Programs. 

Duties and responsibilities 

Workshop Facilitation 

  • Arrive on time and prepared with all materials necessary to conduct workshop at site 

  • Ensure that classroom set up is complete before students arrive 

  • Direct and communicate with all volunteers on program needs and deadlines 

  • Report any volunteer issues to Programming staff 

  • Adhering to the workshop timelines and curricula so that all necessary activities take place in each workshop. 

  • Writing and sharing written works generated during workshops alongside students 

  • Modeling workshop method and observance of workshop guidelines 

  • Presenting reading samples, encouraging discussion and active listening to ensure workshop participants receive quality instruction 

  • Providing appropriate feedback within workshop method, while facilitating student introduction to literary devices, vocabulary, writing genres, poetry forms and new reading material 

  • Following 916 Ink’s classroom management guidelines in all student interaction 

  • Interacting professionally with teachers, administrative staff, parents and 916 Ink Volunteers 

  • Upon completion of program, Wordslingers are responsible to facilitate and emcee Book Release Parties 

    AmeriCorps Member Experience 

    • Supervise and support AmeriCorps members assigned to At-Promise Youth Programs 

    • Oversees and provides weekly one on one coaching sessions to 1 full and 2 half time AmeriCorps members who serve as Lead Inspirators and Inspirators 

    • Provide and participate in monthly learning and development opportunities 

    • Assist AmeriCorps Manager in meeting grant expectations in compliance and reporting requirements 

    • Support the AmeriCorps recruitment and hiring process 

    • Conduct regular (no less than bi-weekly) check-ins with AmeriCorps members 

Program Coordination 

  • In coordination with the Program Team, development and preparation of materials, professional development, and curricula for Find Your Voice Programs   

  • Research, inform, and coordinate material improvements to the curriculum development, curriculum design, and session planning processes. 

  • Act as a primary liaison to partner schools/districts and community partners for assigned programs. 

  • Develop and maintain the schedule of assigned programs. 

  • When and where necessary, temporarily conduct essential roles when a volunteer or staff member is unable to report to an assignment (requires day travel). 

  • Meet all production deadlines set by Program Team 

  • In conjunction with the FYV Program Manager, conduct visits to off-site workshops and provide feedback to ensure fidelity of program delivery (requires day travel). 

  • Participate in monthly staff meetings 

  • Attend required training and professional development sessions as needed 

  • Other job-related duties as assigned  

Qualifications 

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED Certificate 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age 

  • Minimum of two years of work experience in a fast-paced organization 

  • Experience and Knowledge of Trauma Informed Practices Preferred 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking skills to analyze data and solve problems 

  • Must be able to demonstrate a commitment to 916 Ink’s mission, vision and core values 

  • Demonstrated ability to perform all tasks with strong attention to detail 

  • Must be able to take direction and carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision 

  • Demonstrated ability or track record for establishing strong internal and external working/professional relationships 

  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team-driven environment 

  • Must have ability to work a flexible, yet demanding schedule including nights and weekends 

  • Must be able to travel frequently 

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.  If you drive your own automobile on company related business, must show evidence of current automobile insurance 

  • Upon conditional offer of employment, must be able to:

  • Must satisfactorily pass criminal background and professional employment background checks  

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
